| Hospice is best defined as a life affirming
philosophy of care that helps the dying patient maintain
dignity. Hospice care is a team-oriented approach that
includes medical care, pain management and spiritual
and emotional support that is tailored to the patient’s
needs and wishes. At the center of hospice is the belief
that each of us has the right to die pain-free and with
dignity.
Holy Cross Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has partnered
with Holy Cross Hospice to provide an in-patient hospice
unit. While being cared for on our hospice unit the
patient is routinely seen by the nursing center’s
staff as well as members of the Holy Cross Hospice staff.
Hospice staff is
on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week making regular
visits to assess the patient and ensure that they remain
comfortable. Hospice offers bereavement counseling to
the patient’s family and loved
ones for a year after death.
